How the interest is worked out
“₹2 per 100 a month” means ₹2 of interest on every ₹100, every month. So the calculation is one line:
Monthly interest = amount ÷ 100 × rate
₹50,000 at ₹2 is 50,000 ÷ 100 × 2 = ₹1,000 a month. For twelve months that is ₹12,000 of interest, so ₹62,000 comes back in total. Because the rate is per month, the yearly rate is twelve times as much:
| Per 100 a month | ₹1 | ₹1.5 | ₹2 | ₹2.5 | ₹3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yearly rate | 12% | 18% | 24% | 30% | 36% |

Every month, or all at the end
With monthly interest, the interest is paid each month and the amount itself comes back on the last date. With everything at the end, the amount and all of its interest are paid together: ₹50,000 at ₹2 for six months means ₹56,000 on the final date. Agree which one before any money moves.

Keep the record, not just the sum
The arithmetic is the easy part. The hard part is remembering, a year later, which months were paid and when part of the money came back. Loans with interest in Expense Khata turns the rate into a schedule, records each interest payment and repayment, lowers the interest when money comes back early, and reminds you on each due date. It is part of Premium; plain borrow and lend records with pay-back reminders are free.
This calculator shows simple interest arithmetic only. It is not financial or legal advice. High rates can be a heavy burden, and lending at interest as a regular business may be regulated by your state’s money-lending laws.
Questions
Good to know
Is ₹2 per 100 the same as 2% or 24%?
Both, depending on the period. ₹2 per 100 a month is 2% a month, which is 24% a year. Banks quote yearly rates, so multiply the monthly rate by 12 to compare.
Is this simple or compound interest?
Simple interest: every month’s interest is on the amount lent, never on unpaid interest. That is how “per 100 a month” lending is usually agreed. If you agreed to add unpaid interest to the amount, the real figure will be higher.
What if part of the money is returned early?
Interest from the next month is on what is still owed. If ₹20,000 of ₹50,000 comes back, the interest at ₹2 becomes 30,000 ÷ 100 × 2 = ₹600 a month. Run the calculator again with the new amount and the months left.
How do I work out interest for a few days?
Agree it in advance. One simple way is to divide the monthly interest by 30 and multiply by the number of days: ₹1,000 a month for 10 days is about ₹333.
