Know what your loan really costs, not just the EMI
Add a home, personal, car, education or gold loan once. Expense Khata keeps the EMI schedule, records each EMI with its interest on the due date, counts the processing fee, GST and insurance, and when the loan ends shows the total you paid and the real yearly rate.
- One running loan free
- EMI reminders
- No bank linking
Example: personal loan
₹5,00,000 at 12% for 36 months
The bank says 12%. Counting the charges, and that only ₹4,80,200 reached your account, the loan costs 14.8% a year.
How it works
Everything your loan letter says, kept for you
Open More, then Loans, and tap Add loan. Answer what your bank told you; the app does the rest.
Any kind of loan
Home, personal, car, education and gold loans, each with its own schedule. A new loan, or one you already have.
The EMI, worked out
Enter the amount, yearly rate and months and see the EMI as you type. Only know your EMI? The app finds the rate from it, or from a flat rate the dealer quoted.
Every charge counted
Processing fee with 18% GST, insurance premium and pre-EMI interest are recorded as expenses, and what actually reached your account is kept as money received.
Each EMI recorded on its date
On the due date the EMI is recorded from your account: the interest part as a Loan Interest expense, the rest lowering what you owe. Your balances and reports stay right.
A reminder the day before
At 9 AM the day before each EMI, so the money is in the account in time. Only your phone is reminded.
Part payments your way
Pay part of the loan and choose fewer EMIs, a smaller EMI, or the new EMI your bank gave you, and see how much interest it saves first. (Premium)
Rate changed?
For floating-rate loans, record the new rate the way your bank applied it: same EMI and a longer loan, the same end date and a new EMI, or the bank’s own EMI. (Premium)
Close it early
Record the bank’s foreclosure letter: interest since the last EMI, worked out by days, and any closing charges with GST.
The complete picture
When the loan ends: what you received, the total paid, how much went above the loan, and the real yearly rate including every charge. Save it as a PDF with Premium.
What you still owe, on Home
A line under your balance shows how much is still owed on your loans, one tap from the details. Khata AI answers “When is my next EMI?” too.
A worked example
₹5,00,000 personal loan at 12% for 36 months
| What | Amount | How |
|---|---|---|
| EMI | ₹16,607 | Reducing balance, 1% a month for 36 months |
| Processing fee + GST | ₹11,800 | 2% of ₹5,00,000, plus 18% GST on the fee |
| Insurance premium | ₹8,000 | Taken from the loan amount |
| Reached your account | ₹4,80,200 | ₹5,00,000 − ₹19,800 |
| Interest over 36 EMIs | ₹97,859 | The last EMI settles the paise left over |
| Paid above the loan | ₹1,17,659 | Interest + fee, GST and premium |
| Real yearly cost | 14.8% | The rate at which ₹4,80,200 received becomes 36 EMIs of ₹16,607 |
The real yearly cost is worked out the way the Reserve Bank of India asks lenders to show the annual percentage rate (APR) in a loan’s Key Fact Statement, so you can check your bank’s figure. Expense Khata shows the numbers; it does not recommend loans or lenders.

Questions
Good to know
Does Expense Khata connect to my bank or lender?
No. You type in what your loan letter or bank app says. The app never links to a bank, reads SMS or contacts your lender.
Is the whole EMI counted as spending?
No. Only the interest part is an expense, under Loan Interest. The rest of each EMI lowers what you owe. The processing fee, GST and insurance premium are expenses too, so your reports show what the loan costs you.
What is the real yearly cost?
The yearly rate that turns the money you actually received into the EMIs you pay, counting the fee, GST, insurance and pre-EMI interest. It is usually higher than the rate the bank quotes. For a loan with no charges it equals the bank’s rate.
I already have a loan running. Can I add it?
Yes. Choose “Already have it” and enter what is still owed, the EMIs left and the next EMI date, or add it from the start with the part payments you have already made. Nothing from the past is taken from your accounts.
Will my bank charge for a part payment?
It depends on the loan. Under RBI rules, banks may not charge individuals for paying a floating-rate loan early when it is not for business. For other loans, check your loan letter. The app lets you add any charge with its GST.
Is it free?
One running loan, with its schedule, reminders, charges and the complete picture at the end, is free. Premium, a one-time purchase that also removes ads, adds more loans, the part-payment and rate-change planner, past EMIs as history and the PDF.
